General Thomas Mifflin and a small army of rebels held Fort Mifflin and used its strategic location to their advantage. They delayed British supply ships, and ultimately saving Washington's troops from annihilation. The fort was restored in 1795 and manned during the War of 1812 but saw no action. During the Civil War it was used as a prison camp. A lady roams the ruins of the commander's barracks. She has the ill repute of screaming uncontrollably throughout the night. Gerhard made friends with the local Lenni-Lenape Indians. With the passing of time, iron works began opening and creating thoroughfares. This establishment began serving weary travelers as they trekked between Philadelphia and Lancaster on horseback, stagecoach and wagon or on foot. In 1858, David Stott built what is now known as the Stottsville Inn. Supposedly, Josephine Emery, was murdered by her husband, Horace Emery, in an upstairs room. After killing her, he committed suicide. |

This cabin was built on a hill at the intersection of the Darby Creek and South River and continuously lived in for almost 300 years. It changed hands between mill workers, then Girl Scouts and finally Upper Darby Township assumed direct responsibility over this property. Between 12:00am and 4:45am, screams are heard.
